Mill Pond Garden celebrates Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 11, 2025, from 10 AM to Noon, showing a peak of succession blooming. A $25 ticket admits one car with all occupants, available on the website millpondgaren.com, or cash only at the gate. Moms and families enjoy a public garden rich with spring-flowering shrubs, trees, vines, bulbs, perennial plants, wildlife, birds, fish, and splashing fountains. Located at 31401 Melloy Court, Lewes, DE 19958, the garden will display the current succession of flowering plants in the peak of mid-spring, including prize roses, native rhododendrons, clematis, iris, native trilliums, pansies, native woodland phlox, tulips, weigela, and flowering vines. One may see basking pond turtles, koi, water birds, many land birds, frogs, and occasionally the resident osprey, bald eagle, beaver, or pond otter.

Everyone loves flowers. They bring a bland green garden alive with color. Most people plant flowering plants in their garden as the major features for their enjoyment. Given that underlying wish, a gardener can make the most enjoyment by planting for a succession of blooms. When one flowering species is going off, another is coming into bloom to provide the garden with a constant change in delight and visual interest.

Mill Pond Garden, a small botanical garden on Red Mill Pond, serves the community by planned succession of blooms, looking quite different every time it has a Garden Open Day, with different things in bloom, for example, reliable succession planting for Cape area gardens. A public garden with a horticulturist is a good place not just to enjoy the beautiful results, but to get ideas for design, features,  plant choices, and reliable gardening information, expertise from the professional horticulturist on duty. There will be a horticulturist on duty for this May 11 Garden Open Day.
