Mill Pond Garden Celebrates Hydrangeas & Honeysuckles

Mill Pond Garden celebrates Hydrangeas, native Honeysuckles, and much more on Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM. Fifteen dollar ticket admits one car with up to six visitors, available at millpondgarden.com, or cash only at gate. Mill Pond Garden is the Cape area’s only botanical garden. It offers holistic gardens with a wide variety of plants on display that grow successfully in this region. The Garden has two thousand feet of pathways, garden rooms, water features, and beautiful vistas over Red Mill Pond, in a mature forest setting with abundant wildlife and horticulturist on duty. Photographers are welcome.

In bloom will be scores of all types of Hydrangeas, various fragrant flowering shrubs, waterlilies, Pickerel Rush, giant Japanese Iris, lilies, many species of salvias, cuphea, Lythrum, roses, Hibiscus, honeysuckles including the extremely rare native honeysuckle ‘Kintzley’s Ghost’, and the red stemmed and leaved Lonicera ciliosa native to the West Coast, both loved by hummingbirds. Other perennials and annuals may be in flower. The recently installed epiphyte garden of plants that grow in trees, native to southern USA to Mexico, is a spell worthy creation of orchids, Bromeliades, tillandsias, Spanish moss, ferns, and flowering cactus.

Visiting Mill Pond Garden is enjoyable for its own sake, for pleasure, but also valuable as a reference for local gardeners, especially folks newly moved into the region, to see what plants might do well here in the Cape region, to help make choices for their own gardens, or to ask gardening questions.

The garden offers the joys of seeing all the common garden life – squirrels, birds, frogs, Koi fish, Shubunkin fish, and the not so common basking turtles some up to a foot or more in diameter, many water birds like the Osprey hunting, bald eagle, Great Blue or little Green Heron, geese and  ducks, cormorants and gulls, woodpeckers sapsuckers, kingfisher, dragonflies, and more, a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. Google gives Mill Pond Garden five stars.
